The Dark Arts of Key Combinations
Windows Key Combinations
Press Win + R to open the Run dialog. Try typing "cmd" to summon the Command Prompt! But be careful, you might accidentally open System Properties instead!
- Win + E = Explorer (But sometimes opens Calculator)
- Alt + F4 = Exit (Unless you're playing a game...)
- Ctrl + Shift + Esc = Task Manager (Or a game of Minesweeper!)
Mac OS Keyboard Secrets
Apple key combinations are like magic spells. Try Cmd + Space to open Spotlight. But if you press Cmd + Option + Escape you might accidentally force quit... your own application!
- Cmd + Z = Undo (But sometimes undoes your entire life)
- Cmd + T = New Tab (Unless it's Chrome...)
- Ctrl + Option + Command + Esc = Restart (Or open the "I'm Feeling Lucky" dialog)
Unix/Linux Command Quirks
Typing sudo without a password? Try sudo -k to clear the cache. But be warned, you might end up really needing sudo privileges!
- Ctrl + Alt + Del = Windows Task Manager (But on Linux it opens your terminal...)
- Shift + Alt + Ctrl + Delete = System Reboot (Or your keyboard might just explode!)
- Alt + F2 = Run Command (But sometimes it opens a fortune cookie)
